Biography

At the age of 10 James took up the electric guitar and shortly followed by the double bass a couple of years later. Fusing the two together he also found himself playing bass guitar regularly. In 1999 he started studying at London’s Trinity College of Music focusing his studies on both electric and double bass. During his time there he studied with Paul Westwood, Geoff Gasgoine, Steve Watts, Simon Wolfe and Corin Long. As well as four years in Trinity Big Band under the direction of Bobby Lamb.

James is now a freelance bass player living in North London and prides himself on being stylistically diverse on both instruments. Comfortable on either bass he is often booked on dates where both are required. Regularly he can be found performing with everything from jazz big bands, to pop acts, to West End theatre pits. Professional credits include: The Lion King, We Will Rock You, Wicked, Saturday Night Fever, Spamalot, Quadrophenia and Guys & Dolls.

More recently James had rediscovered his love for classical bass and regularly studies with virtuoso bassist Leon Bosch.
